## Calculation of Materials for M-20 Grade of Concrete

M-20 = **1** **:** **1.5** **:** **3**

where

- M = Mix
- 20 = Compressive strength of concrete (
**20 N/mm**)^{2 } - Ratio →
**1**part of cement,**1.5**parts of sand,**3**parts of the aggregate

Assume that the calculation of concrete material is for **1 m ^{3}** wet volume.

Dry volume = Wet volume **x **( **1.54** to **1.57** ) times the wet volume of concrete.

Sum of the ratio for M-20 = **1** + **1.5** + **3** = **5.5**

**⇒** **Now change 1 m ^{3} wet volume to dry volume**

∴ Dry volume = Wet volume **x 1.57 **= **1** **x** **1.57** = **1.57 m ^{3}**

### Volume of Cement

Cement volume = (1/5.5) x 1.57 = 0.285 m^{3}

Volume of cement in kg = 0.2854 x 1440 = 410.9 ≈ 411 kg [♦ Density of cement = 1440 kg/m^{3}]

Quantity of cement (bags) = 411/50 = 8.22 ≈ **8 bags**. [♦ Weight of 1 bag of cement = 50 kg]

### Volume of Sand

Sand volume = (1.5/5.5) x 1.57 = **0.428 m ^{3}**.

### Volume of Aggregate

Aggregate volume = (3/5.5) x 1.57 = **0.856 m ^{3}**.
